2019 WCSG’s economic spin-off continues

A 2-million-dollar economic spin-off is forecasted for the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games. This economic spin off will be felt by regional and local retail, service and accommodation businesses, as well as organizations throughout the Southwest.  

In November, the spin-off continued when the Food Services program signed an agreement with Louie Doulias, owner of the Modern Family Restaurant and Louie D’s Lounge.  Doulias is on contract to be the caterer supplying breakfast, lunch, supper and snacks for over 1,700 athletes and coaches visiting Swift Current for the Games.

“It is going to be an awesome experience and I’m really looking forward to it,” Doulias explained. “There is a tremendous amount of planning and organizing that has been started and will continue right up until the Games start.”

The bidding process took place over two months. A handful of proposals were submitted and evaluated which resulted in the selection of Doulias.  

The Food Services program is co-directed by Cathy Knox & Audra Wong – “We are pleased to be finished with the selection process and with the work that has been done to date”, the directors said  “It is a huge positive to be working with a local caterer for timing, coordination and logistics, but most of all for the experience.”
